Revised Post-Professional Degree Standards Released!
The 2014 Standards for Accreditation of Post- Professional Athletic Training Degree Programs (2014 Post-Professional Degree Standards) are now available for download. The 2014 Post-Professional Degree Standards were approved unanimously by the Commission during the August 16-17, 2013 meeting. The 2014 Post-Professional Degree Standards will be in effect July 1, 2014 and all accredited post-professional degree programs must be in compliance by July 01, 2015.
This major revision to the Post-Professional Degree Standards began more than 2 years ago. During two separate periods of public comment draft versions were reviewed extensively by educators and clinicians. The 2014 Post-Professional Degree Standards have been significantly changed to advance the practice of athletic training and to support the Commission’s vision of Transforming the Profession Through Quality Education. Some of the key changes include the following:
- The inclusion of six new post-professional core competencies
- Advanced clinical practice experiences are now required
- The program must now have a Medical Director
- Program evaluation will now be more outcomes focused
Program Directors, faculty, and institutional administrators are encouraged to review the new 2014 Post-Professional Degree Standards in order to begin the necessary steps to ensure compliance by July 01, 2015
A special thanks to everyone who provided their input on draft versions and to those members of the Commission who led the efforts to create the new standards.
